Public Relations Officer (PRO)

Applications are invited from suitable qualified Gambians to fill the vacant post of a Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the National Roads Authority (NRA).

The Public Relations Office (PRO) is under the Office of The Office of the Managing Director. He/she reports to the Managing Director on the day-to-day execution of his duties. He/she is the mouth-piece of the Authority and is responsible for the issuance of “official” version/explanation/clarification and/or community engagements as may be necessary from time to time.

He/she is required to liaise with all Department/Unit Heads to solicit information for dissemination to the public especially issues relating to road safety and road projects and maintenance activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Planning publicity strategies and campaigns on roads related issues especially new and existing road projects and Road maintenance
activities.
• Hosting radio and television programs and interviews on all roads related issues.
• Dealing with all issues related to roads.
• Ensuring the liaison with the law enforcement agencies such as the Mobile Traffic Police on Roads and Traffic matters.
• Writing and producing presentation and press releases on all road related issues.
• Dealing with enquires from the public, the press and related organizations on all issues relating to the road sector.
• Speaking publicly at interviews, press conferences and presentations on road related issues.
• Ensuring the adherence to road corridor right off way.
• Any other duties as assigned by the Managing Director

3. Qualification and Experience
• Diploma in Public relations, Mass communication and journalism or any related field from a recognized institution.
• Three years’ work experience in the areas listed above or a similar position.

DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR

Applications are invited from suitable qualified Gambians to fill the vacant post of a Deputy Managing Director at the National Roads Authority (NRA).

The Deputy Managing Director (DMD) reports directly to the Managing Director. The post holder is the Assistant Chief Executive Officer of the National Roads Authority and he/she has the overall support function to the Managing Director for the efficient and effective execution, management, administration and implementation of the policy of the Board and the transaction of the day-to-day business of the Authority.

Purpose & Objective

The main purpose and objective of the job of the Deputy Managing Director (DMD) is to provide support and assistance to the Managing Director in the direction and leadership of the Authority in achieving the corporate, vision and mission objectives.

Job Complexity

The work of the DMD demands excellent leadership, management and technical skills to enhance the smooth delivery of quality road network across the country to a wide spectrum of communities. The job requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills to portrait the positive image of the NRA, a good understanding of policy issues, strong analytical skills, good negotiation skills, and sound judgement. The job will be require constant countrywide trekking at work/project sites, frequent representation of NRA at high level meetings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY

• The Deputy Managing Director in consultation with the Managing Director assists the Board to fulfill its functions as well as providing advice and guidance on all matters relating to the strategic management, Operations, Admin and finance functions, Road Construction and Maintenance issues of the Authority.

• Assist the Managing Director in coordinating the management and operation of the Authority’s facilities;

• Assist in facilitating the construction and maintenance of high standard roads network and bridges.

• Assist the Managing Director in the overall management and administration of the
Authority.

• Support the Managing Director in exercising control and effective management of
the Authority’s Financial, Human and Material Resources.

• Take active part in the development and implementation of short, medium and long term plans to enhance the operations and ensure the achievement of the Authority’s financial and operational targets.

• Assist the Managing Director in directing the business operations of the Authority particularly in relation to regulation of Road Transport and also advise the Board of Directors and Government on all road related activities.

• Assist the Managing Director in enforcing The Gambia Roads & Technical Services Authority Act, Regulations and all other policies relevant to the Authority.

• Deputize for the Managing Director as and when required.

• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Managing Director/Board.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT
Candidates must be exceptionally well qualified and obtained a minimum of a Master’s Degree or equivalent qualification in general management, civil engineering or other related field. He/she must have at least a ten years’ post graduate qualification experience and has worked in a senior management position preferably in the Road Construction industry.

Those candidates who have more than ten years postgraduate proven tract work experience in the Ministry of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure (MoTWI) and the National Roads Authority (NRA) will have an added advantage.

Candidates that do not meet the minimum required qualification need not apply. Any interested candidate found to be canvassing for the position will be disqualified.
