The premier Sarahule community group called ‘Sumpudohateh’ has on Tuesday 6th February 2024 walked into the National Roads Authority (NRA) building to show appreciation following the authority’s intervention to construct an access road leading to their boarding in Jambur in the West Coast Region.
Sumpudohateh, a Sarahule community group was formed over 30 years ago, with the sole purpose of addressing Sarahule and community issues in the Gambia but has evolved to promote education and culture, particularly Islamic education.
The road constructed by the NRA leads one of the community’s boarding, which is 1.2km starting from Jabang highway and connects down to Farato-Jambur road.
Muhammed Drammeh from the Sumpudohateh Association thanked the National Roads Authority (NRA) for what he described as a great gesture to construct an access road leading to their boarding school.
“Words cannot describe how happy and elated we are with the NRA for constructing an access road leading to our Islamic School in Jambur. We want to thank the entire NRA family for the fantastic intervention in constructing a vital access road leading to a school that serves the entire community.”
Ousman Drammeh, Imam of Dippa Kunda mosque also from the Sarahule Association expressed happiness for the NRA’s support to them, noting that such a gesture shows how committed and supportive the NRA is to education, religion, and society.
Ebrima Jagana, a member of the association and Jafra Gumaneh, a lecturer at the school, both also expressed delight at the gesture NRA made not to only them but to the community of Jambur.
For his part, Sulayman Sumareh Janneh, deputy managing director of the National Roads Authority (NRA) said that the access road constructed by the authority is something that even the Gambian leader was passionate about.
He added that the NRA has done a lot of things in community intervention but has never had such appreciation from the beneficiaries as how the Sarahule Association did.
“There are a whole lot of things that we do to help communities but most of the time after we get it done, nobody else takes time to even appreciate it. But given the fact that you have a community that felt so passionate and so emotionally driven by the little that we did to help create accessibility to their boarding school is a big deal and worth commending,” he noted.
NRA DMD went on to appreciate the time and efforts shown by the association to come to NRA and thank them, adding that this means a lot to the NRA.
Other speakers include George Jatta, NRA Technical Director, and Bakary Yabo, NRA Finance Director both thanked the Sarahule Association for making efforts and came to the NRA to show their appreciation for the construction.
