PRESS RELEASE – WARNING AGAINST TAMPERING WITH STREET LIGHTING CABLES
The National Roads Authority (NRA) expresses grave concern over the rising incidents of theft of street lighting cables along the Old Cape Road and the Banjul-Serrekunda lighway. Such activities not only disrupt public services but also jeopardize the safet and security of road users.
Street lighting is an essential public utility designed to enhance road safety, improve visibility, and deter criminal activities. Any interference with this infrastructure undermines these objectives, putting the lives of motorists, pedestrians, and the wider community at risk.
The NRA reminds the public that stealing public infrastructure, including street lighting cables, is a criminal offense punishable under the laws of The Gambia. Security agencies are actively monitoring these areas, and individuals caught engaging in such illegal activities will face strict legal action.
We urge all citizens to take ownership of public infrastructure by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or the NRA’s hotline –
1240. Protecting public assets is a shared responsibility, and your cooperation is vital to ensuring the continued safety and functionality of our roadways.
Together, let us work to safeguard our infrastructure and maintain a safe and secure environment for all.
