Job Description
We are currently looking for a qualified Environmentalist with 5 to 7 years of experience to join our Planning and Development Unit in the National Roads Authority. The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent diploma) plus 5 years of minimum professional experience in environment, Natural Resources Management, climate, or any other directly related disciplines. Experience in conducting environmental assessment, monitoring, auditing, reporting, policy making, and planning, and any other necessary environmental issues.
Qualifications and skills
- The Candidate should be a bachelor’s degree holder (or equivalent diploma) plus 5 years of minimum professional experience in environment, Natural resources management, climate, or any other directly related disciplines.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated by past professional experience such as drafting technical reports, preparation of communication products, speaking engagements, etc.
- Excellent computer skills and data analysis.
General professional experience
- At least 5 years of general professional experience in the environment, Natural resources, and/or climate sector, including transport-related policies and best practices.
Specific professional experience
At least 4 years of professional experience in different environment and/or climate-related aspects of transport infrastructure, including but not limited to:
- impact of infrastructure on the environment (e.g. undertaking of ESIAs) studies and modeling of the impact of climate change and (extreme) climate events on transport infrastructure (e.g. climate vulnerability risks assessment)
- integration of environmental and climate aspects in the planning of construction/rehabilitation/maintenance of infrastructures
- Planning and implementation of ESIA Reports/ESMP of infrastructural developments
Duties and Responsibilities:
The environmentalist is expected to conduct the following range of duties:
- The assessment of environmental projects on the ground.
- Providing advice and assisting the NRA on issues related to the environment in carrying out projects with potential environmental implications.
- Evaluation of the performance of projects and stakeholder engagement.
- Carrying out impact assessment for environment awareness projects.
- Identifying and planning environmental-related activities.
- Analyzing environmental matters, writing technical/ reports, and showing orderly and safe management of all environmental-related records.
- overseeing mainstreaming/integrating environmental matters.
- Shall be the liaison Officer between the NRA and the government, donors, and other organizations with similar interests.
- Work in close collaboration with the National Environment Agency to ensure projects undergo the EIA process depending on the class before the commencement of implementation and submit audit reports to the Agency in line with the EIA regulations.
- Any other duties may be assigned by the Planning manager or Technical Director.
