President Adama Barrow expressed satisfaction with the level of progress registered on the ongoing EPC Lot 1 Basse Roads Project in the Upper River Region (URR).
The Lot 1 road project, which is 69km, is contracted to Gai Construction, a Gambian-owned company, and CityScape Associate is the Consultant, also Gambian-owned.
The Basse component of the project is divided into eleven sections of roads. The contractor is currently working on four roads, i.e., Basse Manneh Kunda – Demba Kunda – Gambiasara Road (13.93km); Angalfuta Road Project (1.76km) (Reinforced Concrete Pavement); Basse – Dampha Kunda – Tambansansang Road Project (9.2km) and Chamoi Road Project (2.8km) respectively.
The above roads are at various stages of work, ranging from the roadbed, fill, subgrade, and subbase layer, while the executive studies and design are also in progress for the remaining roads under Lot 1, which includes roads in Brikamaba and Sutukoba to Chamoi Bunda.
The overall progress is estimated at approximately 30%.

Barrow while speaking on the sideline during his visit to the road, pointed out that these are very important roads for his government and by extension to the people of URR at large
He also revealed to the people of Sandu and Wuli during his meeting that he is planning to construct more roads in URR in his 2025 and 2026 agenda.
Numuyel, Basse Manneh Kunda, and Demba Kunda community elders thanked President Barrow for constructing such important roads for them while also thanking both the Contractor, Consultant, NRA and the Ministry for the wonderful ongoing work.
Meanwhile, other speakers during the meeting at Sandu also commended the Gambian leader for easing their transportation and connectivity problem by currently constructing the Basse road network.
