NRA MD concludes upcountry road visits at Lots 3, 4 & Kiang West Road Projects
The Managing Director of the National Roads Authority (NRA), on Friday, 23rd May 2025, completed his routine upcountry inspection tour of government-funded ongoing projects with a visit to the Lot 3 Kabada Road, Kiang West Road and Lot 4 Foni Road Projects respectively.
MD Sanyang, who started the tour on Wednesday, 21st May 2025, in the North Bank Region, through to the Central and Upper River Region, concluded the upcountry tour in the Lower River Region and West Coast Region, respectively.
Kiang Kabada Road Project
The NRA boss started his Friday visit at the Lower River Region Lot 3 Kabada Road project. This road is 102km, and it is contracted to Long Jin Construction (a Chinese company), and Gamecs (a Gambian company) is the Consultant.
The project consists of the construction of twelve (12) roads approximately 102 km in total length. Some of the roads form loops connecting to the Trans-Gambia Highway. The contractor is working on all twelve (12) roads, and the current overall progress is at 46%
The Kiang West Road Project
This project, which is divided into two (2) phases, is 87km long.
Phase 1 is from Kiang Sankandi to Karantaba – 39km. Phase 2 comprises several roads connecting different villages in the area to Phase 1, and has a total length of 48km
The Consultant for the project is CityScape Associates (a Gambian company), while the Contractor is Gai Construction (a Gambian company).
The contractor is currently doing the road markings for the entire road in Phase 1 following the completion of sealing, while there are several activities ongoing in Phase 2 ranging from earthworks, priming and sealing respectively.
The project has overall achieved 95% progress in Phase 1, while 78% of the work has progressed in Phase 2.
Lot 4 Foni Road Project
The 22.53km road project is divided into four sections as follows: –
1. Kalagi – Kamangka – Bondali is 10.2km;
2. Jorem Nema Kunda – Jorem Bunda Kunda is 1.45km;
3. Sangajorr _Dasilami is 5.78km; and
4. Kamfenda – Tintinbaa is 5.1km respectively.
The project is contracted to SOMAGEC, and the Consultant is Gamecs.
The Contractor completed the entire earthworks and pavement in road sections 1 and 2 and is now completing the base in road section 3.
Works have also started in section 4 Kamfenda – Tintinbaa road.
Overall progress is approximately 68.5%.
MD Sanyang is satisfied with the progress of works on the Kiang Kabada project where it is anticipated the works will be completed well before the contracted completion date.
This, he added is subject to satisfactory cash flows for the contractor by the contract provisions.
According to him, the Kiang West project is now nearing completion, and subject to the satisfactory deployment of additional resources, the delivery of road signs, and the uninterrupted supply of bitumen.
He revealed that Phase 1 is expected to be completed by the end of June 2025, and Phase 2 after the rains.
The NRA boss is concerned about the pace of work on the Lot 4 Foni project.
He, however, said more effort is required to meet the project timelines and also to progress critical works required to be completed before the start of the rains.
