Government to Construct 30km Road Network in West Coast Region
The Minister of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure (MoTWI), Ebrima Sillah, has announced that the Government of The Gambia, under the leadership of President Adama Barrow, is set to implement a major road development initiative in the West Coast Region (WCR).
Speaking on Sunday, 23rd November 2025, during the ongoing “Meet with the People’s Tour” in Brikama, Minister Sillah disclosed that plans are underway to construct over 30 kilometres of new roads across the region. He noted that the project is designed to significantly improve mobility, strengthen connectivity, and enhance communication within Brikama and the wider West Coast Region.
According to the Minister, the roads earmarked for construction under the 30km programme—most of which are located in Brikama—include the following:
• Rumba Road
• Brikama Kabafita – Regional Office
• Jalambang Sarangai Junction – Nyambai Forest
• Brikama Gidda Road via Samasang School to Toubakuta Village
• Jamisa Main Road to Brikama Jah Oil – Jambarr Sanneh Pond
• USET Road linking to Rumba Road
• Brikama Abattoir – Brikama Kabafita
• Jamisa Main Road 1
• FMB Road – Sanneh Kunda – Abattoir Gunjur Road
• Brikama Newtown Road
• Brikama Market – Box Bar – Jah Oil Junction (to be constructed as a dual carriageway)
Minister Sillah further revealed that the government will also construct several key roads in Sinchu, Nema, Tanji, and Brufut. These include:
• Hamat Bah Road
• Nema Algassim Road
• Saul Badjie Junction to Nema Alkali Mosque, connecting to Nema Sukuta OIC Road and extending to the Latrikunda end
• Tanji Town Road
• Brufut – Jabang Road
He emphasised that these roads, once completed, will greatly improve travel efficiency and facilitate the smooth movement of people, goods, and services within and beyond the West Coast Region.
