A technical team from the National Roads Authority (NRA), led by its Technical Director, on Friday, 27th February 2026, conducted an inspection tour of the ongoing Kiang West Road Project in the Lower River Region (LRR). The team was accompanied by the Senior Feeder Roads Manager, Mr. Bannie T. Chapman, under the guidance of the Managing Director.

Implemented in two phases, the Kiang West Road Project is a major intervention aimed at improving road connectivity and rural access across the Kiang West area.

The 87-kilometre project is being executed by Gai Construction, with Cityscape Associates serving as the project consultant.

Phase I: Sankandi–Karantaba Trunk Road (39 km)

Phase I consists of a single main trunk road linking Sankandi to Karantaba over a distance of 39 kilometres. Road sealing and pavement markings have been fully completed. Current works are focused on the installation of road furniture, including road signs, guard rails, marker posts and cat eyes, all of which are on site and being installed.

Progress: 98% complete.

Phase II: Community Access Roads (48 km)

Phase II has expanded significantly from its initial scope. Originally designed to cover four roads, it now comprises ten road sections, improving access to more than 20 villages and communities within the project area. Road sealing has been completed across all sections, while concrete works for drainage structures are ongoing. Installation of road furniture is progressing steadily, with road marking works scheduled to commence in the coming week.

Progress: 95% complete.

Overall Project Status

Across both phases, sealing works are complete, drainage structures are under construction, and the installation of road furniture is advancing well. Now in its final stages, the Kiang West Road Project is expected to significantly enhance mobility, improve road safety, and support economic and social activities for communities throughout the region.
