Kiang West Roads Project Set for Saturday Inauguration
The Kiang West Roads Project is set to be inaugurated on Saturday, 25th April 2026, in the Lower River Region (LRR), marking a major milestone in the government’s drive to improve rural infrastructure.
The ceremony will take place in Jaffaron and is expected to draw beneficiaries from within the region and beyond, as communities prepare to witness the official commissioning of the transformative project.
Implemented in two phases, the project represents a significant intervention aimed at enhancing road connectivity and access across the Kiang West area. The 87-kilometre network, fully funded by the Government of The Gambia, is being executed by Gai Construction as the Contractor, with Cityscape Associates serving as project consultants.
Phase I of the project covers the construction of the 39-kilometre Sankandi–Karantaba trunk road, forming a vital transport link within the region.
Phase II focuses on community access roads spanning 48 kilometres. Initially designed to include four roads, the scope has been expanded to ten road sections, providing improved access to over 20 villages and communities in the project area.
Following the Inauguration, the Kiang West Roads Project will significantly boost mobility, enhance road safety, and stimulate economic and social activities across the Lower River Region.
