As part of its ongoing nationwide project inspection tour, the National Roads Authority (NRA) technical team visited the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Lot 4 Road Project in the West Coast Region to assess progress and monitor ongoing works.

The project, which forms a key part of The Gambia’s western transportation network, comprises the construction of five roads with a combined length of approximately 33.7 kilometres. The project is being implemented by SOMAGEC, with GAMECS serving as the supervising consultant.

During the visit, the team observed significant progress across the project sites. The Kalagi–Bundali Road has seen 8 kilometres sealed, with the remaining 2 kilometres under construction, while the Jorem Nema Kunda–Jorem Bunda Kunda Road is 99 percent complete, pending road signs and markings. Sealing works are underway on the Sangajor–Dasilami Road following completion of priming, while the Kanfenda–Mandina Road is currently at the priming stage. On the Giboro–Sohm Road, the base course has been completed, and concrete drainage works are ongoing.

Overall physical progress on the EPC Lot 4 Project stands at 85 percent.

Speaking during the inspection, Momodou Dumbuya, Project Manager for SOMAGEC, said the contractor has undertaken extensive drainage improvement measures in preparation for the rainy season, including clearing water channels and constructing culverts and Irish crossings. He added that a response team will be stationed in Kalagi to address any potential flooding issues during the rainy season.

The NRA reaffirmed its commitment to closely supervising the project to ensure quality delivery, timely completion, and improved road connectivity for communities across the West Coast Region.
