NRA Technical Team Inspects Progress of GIRAV Feeder Roads in WCR
A technical team from the National Roads Authority (NRA) on Thursday, 30 July 2026, inspected the ongoing Lot 3 and Lot 4 road projects under the World Bank-funded Gambia Inclusive and Resilient Agricultural Value Chain Development (GIRAV) Programme in the West Coast Region as part of its nationwide monitoring exercise.
The inspection, which forms part of a three-day nationwide tour of ongoing GIRAV road projects, is aimed at assessing construction progress, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and identifying any challenges affecting implementation.
The team began its visit at Lot 4, where works are being executed by Solo Dabo & Sniaf JV under the supervision of PACE – CEETEQ Engineering JV.
The roads inspected under Lot 4 include the 6.1-kilometre Gunjur–Berending Road in Kombo South and the 16.6-kilometre Somita–Bantending–Jakoi Paima–Jakoi Sibirik–Tampoto Road in Foni Bintang.
At the Gunjur–Berending Road, the contractor has completed clearing and grubbing and has started subgrade preparation for the entire section. Meanwhile, significant progress has been recorded on the Somita–Tampoto Road, where priming and sealing are underway following the successful completion of the base course.
The team also visited Lot 3, where construction is progressing on the following feeder roads:
– Bulajorr–Katakor (6.3 km)
– Nyantempo–Fass Chamen–Nfee–Jendin–Jilaher–Bulunto (7.2 km)
– Bondali–Burambang–Bulengant–Tibat–Kankurang–Bambara (7.5 km)
– Wassadou–Abdullai–Fass Chabai–Kangiramba–Busary–Bulangant (7.0 km)
On the Bulajorr–Katakor Road, the contractor is carrying out subbase and base course works, while approximately one kilometre of subgrade has been completed on the Nyantempo–Bulunto Road section.
Construction has also advanced on the Bondali–Bambara Road, where sealing and the construction of Irish crossings are in progress. On the Wassadou–Bulangant Road, base course works are ongoing following the completion of the subbase layer.
The inspection tour will continue on Friday, 31 July 2026, with visits to additional GIRAV feeder road projects, including the Main Road–Sare Jamma–Minna Road in the Lower River Region and the Sinchu Alhagie–Pateh Sam, Minteh Kunda–Njawara–Kerr Omar, and Kuntaya–Jissa Kerr Amadou–Kerr Omar Saine roads in the North Bank Region.
The nationwide inspection exercise underscores the NRA’s commitment to ensuring the timely delivery of quality road infrastructure that improves rural connectivity, enhances agricultural value chains, and promotes inclusive socio-economic development across The Gambia.
