NRA Moves to Address Kuntair Road Emergency in NBR
The National Roads Authority (NRA), under the leadership of its Acting Managing Director, Sulayman Sumareh Janneh, has swiftly intervened to provide a temporary solution to the emergency road situation at Kuntair in the North Bank Region (NBR).
The NRA boss, accompanied by his senior engineering team, on Thursday, 11th September 2025, visited the affected site to assess the situation and outline immediate measures.
“This is a typical sinkhole situation caused by a blockage in the main channel, which prevented water from discharging properly into the installed storm pipes.
As a result, water scoured around the pipes, leading to underground erosion that eventually created a sinkhole,” explained Mr. Janneh.
He further disclosed that the NRA will implement a temporary fix by reinstalling the pipes in their proper position and consolidating them.
“To reinforce the structure, stones will be placed on top to act as a control mechanism—dense enough to carry traffic loads while still allowing water to permeate.”
“This is only a temporary solution. Once the rainy season ends, the NRA will return to reassess the situation and design a permanent fix,” he added.
Meanwhile, traffic has been diverted through Kuntaya towards the Hakalang Loop to ease movement as the Authority works on the temporary solution.
