NRA Technical Team inspect Kiang West & Kabada Road Projects
As part of its routine inspection tour, the National Roads Authority (NRA) technical team, led by its Technical Director, George Jatta, on Friday 29th August 2025, visited the ongoing Kiang West and Lot 3 Kiang Kabada Road Projects in the Lower River Region (LRR) respectively.
TD Jatta and his team began the road inspection tour of the ongoing Kiang West Road Project.
The Kiang West Road Project
This project, which is divided into two (2) phases, is 87km long.
Phase 1 is from Kiang Sankandi to Karantaba – 39km. Phase 2 comprises several roads connecting different villages in the area to Phase 1, and has a total length of 48km
The Consultant for the project is CityScape Associates (a Gambian company), while the Contractor is Gai Construction (a Gambian company).
The contractor has substantially completed the road in Phase 1, with the road furniture remaining, while in Phase 2, the contractor is left with civil works, priming, and sealing.
The contractor has now completed sealing the Manduar- Joli – Kemoto road.
Sealing has also been completed in the Kemoto-Janneh Kunda-Karantaba road, and less than 2km of sealing remains in
Karantaba – Misira road.
The total progress of the project is 71%.
Overall, the project achieved 95% progress in Phase 1, while 78% of the work has progressed in Phase 2.
Lot 3 Kiang Kabada Road Project
The 102km road project is contracted to Long Jin Construction (a Chinese company), and Gamecs (a Gambian company) is the Consultant.
The project consists of constructing twelve (12) roads approximately 102 km in total length. Some of the roads form loops connecting to the Trans-Gambia Highway.
The contractor is working on all twelve (12) roads, and the ongoing activities of the project include the construction of Irish crossings, cleaning of the inlet and outlet of the Irish crossings, reshaping of roads and concrete payment works.
Meanwhile, due to the rain, the activities on site are limited. The overall progress is at 59.6%.
