NRA to Construct Over 49km of Roads in Niani Under Connect Gambia Infrastructure Project
The National Roads Authority (NRA) is set to construct a 49.2-kilometre road network in Niani, Central River Region (CRR), under Phase One of the government’s nationwide Connect Gambia road infrastructure initiative.
The project comes ahead of the foundation stone-laying ceremony for four roads in Niani, which fall under Lots 2, 3 and 4 of the government’s ambitious 1,500-kilometre road construction programme on Monday 19th May 2026.
The initiative forms part of efforts to improve rural connectivity and expand access to transportation infrastructure for communities across the country.
The 49.2-kilometre road network will cover key routes across the Niani area, including the Jarumeh Koto–Manna–Salikeneh–Jarumeh Kuta–Kayai road, spanning 12 kilometres under Lot 3; the Wassu Junction–Kuntaur–Jakaba–Pianist Sukuta–Barajally Tenda road, covering 16.4 kilometres under Lot 3; the Nyagabantang–Bakadaji road, measuring 10.8 kilometres under Lot 4; and the Wassu–Kataba Omar Ndow–Kataba Seringe road, extending 10 kilometres under Lot 2.
Upon completion, the road projects are expected to significantly improve transportation, stimulate economic activities, and enhance the living conditions of communities across the region.
