President Adama Barrow intimated that he is impressed with the level of progress made at the ongoing OIC 50km Urban road projects as well as some of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) government-funded projects in the Urban areas.

The Gambian leader was speaking to journalists after he inspected some of the ongoing OIC and government-funded EPC road project sites in the urban area.

President Barrow and his entourage began the inspection at the Ebo Town concrete road en route to P3: GPPC Rd – Westfield Jokor – Abuko concrete road, which is 2.8km long. He then continued his visit on the following roads: –

EPC Lot 5 Road Section 5: Tabokoto – Abuko – Banjulinding (3.4km)

Section 2: Sinchu Wellingara – Kunkujang Keitaya (4.2km)

Section 1: Farato Bojang Kunda – Bafuloto (4km)

OIC 50km Urban Road Road P6: Kololi Tavern – Bijilo – Brufut (8.6 km).

P13: Sukuta Health Center – Kololi/Senegambia Road Intersection (3.25 km)

P18: Kololi Senegambia Road Intersection – Touba Sanchaba Road (1.14km)

“So far, we are very impressed and happy with what we have seen. We are almost finishing all the 50km OIC roads with just a few remaining to be paved,” President Adama Barrow told journalists on Wednesday after he inspected the ongoing projects.

According to him, the importance of these projects is manifested in the smiling and happy faces of the people in different communities

He went on to thank his government donor partners for funding the road projects, noting that some of these roads are concessional loan, which has a 35% grant.

He revealed that his government is not only doing donor-funded roads but is also doing roads under the central government of about 365 kilometres.

“We are doing three projects at the same time simultaneously. We are still ambitious and we want to continue doing more roads.”

Barrow thanked the Ministry of Works and NRA for their support in supervising these road projects.

Also speaking on the sideline with journalists, Sulayman Sumareh Janneh, Deputy Managing Director of the National Roads Authority (NRA), said the ongoing 50km OIC road projects are almost about 87% completed, adding that currently, most of the roads are left with mainly the drains following the completion of the main carriageway.

“These are asphalt roads, highly durable and are supposed to last a minimum of 25 to 50 years,” he told journalists.

The NRA DMD also expressed satisfaction with the level of progress so far, noting that hopefully, by the end of the year, all roads will be completed.
