As part of his ongoing tour, President Adama Barrow on Monday, 10 August 2026, laid the foundation stones for the Connect Gambia Infrastructure Initiative’s Lot 6 and Lot 7 road projects in the North Bank Region (NBR), before inaugurating the Njau Loop–Carol Wharf Road under EPC Lot 2 in the Central River Region (CRR).

The 52.1km Lot 6 foundation stone was laid at Yalal Tankonjala and Farafenni.

For Lot 7, President Barrow laid the foundation stone at Nyagen Sangal. This Lot covers a total of 52.2km of roads.

The foundation stone-laying ceremonies form part of the President’s ongoing nationwide tour to launch and inaugurate key road infrastructure projects under the Connect Gambia initiative.

In the Central River Region, President Barrow also inaugurated the 12km Njau Loop–Carol Wharf Road Project under EPC Lot 2. The project is fully funded by the Government of The Gambia and was contracted to Cornerstone, with Pace and GAMECS serving as consultants.

EPC Lot 2 comprises three road links: the 12km Laminkoto–Banni–Youna–Kunting Road; the 26km Karantaba–Reneru–Tabanani–Demfaye Njaga–Fitu Fulla Road; and the 12km Njau Loop–Carol Wharf Road.

The 26km Karantaba–Reneru–Tabanani–Demfaye Njaga–Fitu Fulla Road is scheduled for inauguration on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.

President Adama Barrow has described the Ngayen Sanjal road project as a lifeline for communities, connecting farmers to markets, children to schools, and families to essential services.

He said the project, together with the newly completed Njau Loop Road, will unlock agricultural potential, improve mobility and enhance the quality of life for thousands of people.

Sulayman Sumareh Janneh, NRA Managing Director, said the projects demonstrate Government’s commitment to turning development policies into lasting public infrastructure.

“These roads will serve farmers, children, patients, businesses and communities pursuing prosperity,” he said.
