President Adama Barrow on Saturday, 8 August 2026, laid the foundation stone for the construction of 360.18 kilometres of roads across the North Bank Region (NBR) under the government’s Connect Gambia Infrastructure Initiative.

The projects are divided into seven lots covering a total of 360.18km across the region:

– Lot 1: Three roads – 50.7km

– Lot 2: Five roads – 50km

– Lot 3: Seven roads – 50.6km

– Lot 4: Eight roads – 54.65km

– Lot 5: Twenty roads – 52.03km

– Lot 6: Fifteen roads – 52.1km

– Lot 7: Sixteen roads – 52.2km

Speaking at the ceremony, President Barrow said the new roads would enable farmers to transport their produce more efficiently to markets, helping to reduce post-harvest losses, improve access to better prices and strengthen livelihoods.

“North Bank Region is one of the nation’s most active agricultural regions and a vital gateway to our neighbours,” President Barrow said. “These NBR project lots represent our commitment to unlocking the agricultural potential of this region. Our farmers will now have easier access to markets, with reduced post-harvest losses and increased incomes.”

Sulayman Sumareh Janneh, Managing Director, National Roads Authority (NRA), also underscored the importance of the Connect Gambia Infrastructure Initiative, noting that the projects will help ease transportation challenges and strengthen connectivity between communities across the North Bank Region and beyond.

He assured the gathering of the NRA’s commitment to delivering durable and quality road infrastructure that meets the needs of communities and supports economic development across the region.

The 360.18km project comprises 74 roads across seven lots, marking a major investment in the region’s road infrastructure and socio-economic development.

The projects represent a major investment in improving road connectivity, accessibility and mobility across the North Bank Region.
