President Barrow visits ongoing Banni-Sallikene & EPC Lot 2 roads project
As part of his ongoing foundation stones laying of the GIRAV Feeder Roads Project across the country, the Gambian leader, President Adama Barrow on Sunday 29th March 2026 visited the ongoing Banni–Salikene–Njaba Kunda Road in the North Bank Region (NBR) and the EPC Lot 2 roads project in the Central River Region (CRR)
The 16.14-kilometre road linking Banni, Salikene, and Njaba Kunda is near completion in the North Bank Region.
The contractor, Bajam, has largely completed key construction activities, including the full execution of the First Seal. 12 km of the second seal has been completed too, with 4km remaining.
The contractor has also completed over 9 Irish crossings and 200 metres of shallow drains to improve drainage and enhance the road’s durability.
EPC Lot 2 roads project in the Central River Region.
This project which is 50km fully government-funded comprises three roads and is contracted to Cornerstone Construction company, with Cityscape Associates serving as the Consultant.
The Lot 2 project comprises the following road sections:
1. Laminkoto–Banni–Youna–Kunting Road (12 km)
2. Karantaba–Reneru–Tabanani–Demfaye Njaga–Litu Fulla Road (26 km)
3. Njawo Loop–Carol Wharf Road (12 km)
The scope of works includes earthworks, construction of flexible pavements, Double Bituminous Surface Dressing (DBST), drainage systems, bus stops, road furniture, and environmental, health, and safety measures.
Currently, 2 km of priming, 7 km of first sealing, and 700 metres of second sealing have been completed on the Njawo Loop–Carol Wharf Road. Overall progress on this section stands at 68%.
Surfacing works have been completed on the Karantaba–Reneru–Tabanani–Demfaye Njaga–Litu Fulla Road, with the contractor now focusing on road signage.
Overall progress on this section is 95%.
Meanwhile, concreting works on the Laminkoto–Banni–Youna–Kunting Road have reached 95% completion, with overall project progress at 67%.
