The Ministry of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure (MOTWI), together with the National Roads Authority (NRA) Tuesday continued with their ongoing inspection tour with a visit to the Upper River Region (URR) Lot 1 Road Project and Central River Region (CRR) Lot 2 50km Road projects respectively. The NRA and Ministry delegates first visited the Demba Kunda-Gambisara road project in Basse URR before proceeding to the 50km Laminkoto, Banni, Young, Hunting and Karantaba Reneru, Tabanani Demfaye Njaga-Fitu Fulla, Njau Loop projects in CRR. The 13.886km Lot 1 Basse Demba Kunda-Gambisara road project in the Upper River Region (URR) is contracted to Gai Construction, and the consultant is CityScape. The project is currently on subbase and has so far achieved 5.3% overall. Meanwhile, the 50km Lot 2 project in the Central River Region (CRR) is contracted to Cornerstone Construction, and the consultant is CityScape. The 50km CRR Project is divided into three: Njau Loop 12km; Karantaba-Fitu Fula 26km; and Laminkoto-Kunting 12km, respectively, making it 50km Speaking in an interview, Hon. Minister Ebrima Sillah said he is impressed with the level of work progress by both contractors in Lot 1 and 2, respectively. He, however, promised the beneficiaries of both regions that they are not going to compromise on the quality of the road. According to him, these road projects, if completed, will ease the transportation challenges to all the communities when going to the markets, farms, and hospitals, amongst others. He also thanked the inhabitants of both regions for being so supportive to the contractors during the project. Alagie Abubacarr Camara, a native of Basse Demba Kunda said they are very happy with the project, as they never thought of such a project in Demba Kunda. “We have been suffering due to the lack of good roads in Demba Kunda for so many years, especially for our women to have access to the go to markets and hospital especially, during their labour period,” he further stated. This road, he said, when completed, will ease their transportation problem and also help to connect them with neighbouring countries like Senegal and Guinea Bissau. He finally thanked the Gambian leader through NRA and the Ministry for coming up with such an important project.
