The Managing Director of the National Roads Authority (NRA) Mr. Ousman Sanyang, together with his Technical Director, George Jatta, on Thursday 25th April 2024, visited the ongoing construction sites of the EPC roads in Lot 8 and Lot 9 in the West Coast Region (WCR) respectively.
The objective of the visit is to gather first-hand information and assess the progress of construction works thus far.
Both Lot 8 and Lot 9 Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects are going to be concrete roads and are 4.5km each.
Lot 8 – Gunjur Seaside Road Project in the West Coast Region (WCR)
The 4.5km Road Project is contracted to a local Gambian contractor, Green Vision International, and NRA is the consultant. The project started in October 2023, and the duration is 12 months.
The contractor (Green Vision International) has already completed over 200m of the carriageway works. They are simultaneously also working on the structures and drainage works.
This project should have two culverts, with one of them already constructed.
Lot 9 – Sanyang Hawba Road Project in the West Coast Region (WCR)
The 4.5km project is contracted to another local Gambian company, Zen Construction, and NRA is the consultant.
The project, which started in December 2023, is due to be completed in one year. This project has one culvert and three Irish crossings.
The clearing and drubbing are completed, and the focus is now on the earthworks. Almost half of the subbase work is completed, and they are now working on the remaining 2.5km of subbase.
Mr. Ousman Sanyang, Managing Director of the National Authority (NRA) said he is very happy with the level of progress at both sites while urging both constructors to speed up a little bit to meet the target deadline for completion.
For his part, Ebrima Jallow, the General Manager of Zen Construction, said they are trying to cover more kilometres on their subbase and hope to start the base before the rainy season.
He, however, hailed the NRA and the Sanyang Community for being so supportive of them.
Ousman Touray, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Green Vision International, also said they are trying to speed up and cover more areas of the work to meet the deadline of the contract.
According to him, they are simultaneously also working on the structures and drainage works.
