NRA boss outlines the importance of ongoing EPC road projects in GBA
Ousman Sanyang, Managing Director of the National Roads Authority (NRA), stated that the ongoing Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) road construction projects in the Greater Banjul Area (GBA)are very important, as they seek to provide access to communities.
The NRA Chief was speaking to journalists during the end of the day 2 ongoing nationwide routine inspection tour of the Works Ministry and NRA.
MD Sanyang added that the ongoing road projects across the country are expected to last for a long time.
For his part, Hon. Ebrima Sillah, The Minister of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure (MOTWI), expressed delight after seeing some significant progress on sites compared to their previous visits, adding that they are hopeful by the end of April 2025, construction work will be completed and inaugurated.
The NRA and the Ministry of Works, during day 2 of the ongoing tour on Sunday, 26th January 2025, visited the EPC Lot 5, 6, 8, 9 and Brufut-Madiana road projects, respectively,
The delegation started the Lot 5 project. The 4km project is contracted to Bologel Limited, a Gambian construction company, while the National Roads Authority (NRA) is the supervisor.
The road is a double surface dressed two-way single-lane carriageway with footways, parking spaces, streetlights and drainage facilities.
The project is divided into 5 roads-:
Farato Bojang Kunda to Bafuloto is 4km, and it has achieved 72% progress.
Wellingara Kunkujang Keitaya is 4.2km, and it has achieved 68% progress.
Wellingara to Abuko Abattoire 4km, and it achieved 21% progress.
Lamin – Babylon- Makumbaya Road is 6km, and it achieved 68% progress.
Tabokoto- Abuko-Banjulinding Road is 3.7km, and it achieved 49% of progress.
The overall progress of the project is 50%.
The delegation also visited the EPC Lot 6 project in the West Coast Region.
This project is divided into three road sections with a total length of 28 kilometres. Section 1 comprises of Youna -Jambur -Jalangbang -Brikama, 13.9 km. Section 2 connects Jambur -Baniaka -Kunkujang -Tujereng, 11 km and
Section 3 stretches from Old Yundum -Tawto -Jabang, 3.2 km.
The contractor is working on section 1 and is currently on the construction of the culvert, and doing some earthworks.
Overall progress is at 10%, which is unsatisfactory. The contractor is urged to intensify efforts to catch up for lost time.
Lot 9 Sanyang (Hawba) Road Project.
This project, which connects the village to the seaside, is 4.5km long and is contracted to Zen Construction and Trading Company, a Gambian-owned company.
The road is concrete and will have sidewalks, and drainage facilities, including Irish crossings. The project, which is 12 months in duration, has now achieved a remarkable 45% progress.
The Lot 8 project in Gunjur starts from the Brusubi-Kartong Highway to the Gunjur seaside. It also branches to the Gunjur Sheikh Ahmad Futi Grand Mosque.
The 4.5km road project is contracted to Green Vision International, a Gambian-owned Construction Company, and the consultant and supervisor is the National Roads Authority (NRA).
The road is concrete, and drainage facilities will be provided on both sides of the road with streetlights. The contractor is currently on concreting and has covered 17km. Overall progress is around 39%.
