NRA Swiftly Rehabilitates Damaged Section of Churchill Town Road
The National Roads Authority (NRA), under the leadership of its Acting Managing Director, Sulayman Sumareh Janneh, on Thursday, 11th September 2025, responded swiftly to public concerns by rehabilitating a damaged section of the Westfield–Mandinaba Road at Churchill Town.
The deteriorated section had been causing significant traffic congestion, prompting immediate intervention.
The rehabilitation works, executed by Bologel Construction Company, involved an asphalt overlay of 125 meters with a width of 8.4 meters.
Accompanied by senior management and engineering staff, the NRA Acting Managing Director personally monitored the rehabilitation process.
Speaking to journalists during the exercise, Mr. Janneh explained that the Churchill Town road had long exceeded its design lifespan. He highlighted that delays in road maintenance are often linked to the use of concrete works, which require a minimum of 28 days to properly set.
“This usually raises public concerns, which is why we are now adopting quicker interventions,” he noted. “What we would prefer is for the NRA to have its own equipment, so we can execute such works swiftly and with minimal disruption—like what we achieved tonight at Churchill Town.”
Mr. Janneh further emphasised that this approach marks the beginning of a new maintenance strategy for the country’s roads. He also commended the presence of the new Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure (MoTWI), who witnessed the works first-hand.
In his remarks, Samba C. Mballow, Permanent Secretary at MoTWI, underscored the importance of NRA’s road rehabilitation efforts, reaffirming the Ministry’s continuous support to NRA in strengthening and expanding The Gambia’s national road network.
