Works Progressing Steadily on Kotu (BB) Bridge Project
Construction works on the new Kotu (BB) Bridge are progressing steadily, marking another important milestone in efforts to improve access to hotels, markets, and surrounding communities in the area.
The project is being implemented by Longjian Road & Bridge Company under the supervision of the National Roads Authority (NRA).
Providing an update on the project, NRA Project Engineer Ebrima Kuyateh said the contractor is currently carrying out pile drilling, reinforcement installation, and concreting works for the bridge foundation.
“We commenced the first piling works at the beginning of June following the completion of the cofferdam and the mobilisation of the pile drilling machine. Out of the 30 piles required for the project, 28 have already been completed, with only two remaining,” he stated.
According to Engineer Kuyateh, the piles are being drilled to depths ranging between minus 12.5 and minus 13 metres below ground level to ensure a strong and durable foundation for the bridge structure.
“Upon completion of the piling works, the next stages will include the construction of the pile cap, which will measure one metre in both width and height, followed by the construction of the walls, beams, and finally the bridge slab,” he explained.
He further disclosed that the total length of the project is 420 metres, while the bridge structure itself spans 24 metres.
The project, which is expected to be completed within nine months, will significantly enhance connectivity between the Kotu and Fajara areas. Upon completion, the bridge will improve access to several hotels, businesses, and residential communities, thereby contributing to tourism, trade, and broader socio-economic development.
