NRA Technical Team Inspects Progress on EPC Lot 1 Road Project in URR
As part of its nationwide project inspection tour, the National Roads Authority (NRA) technical team visited the ongoing Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Lot 1 Road Project in the Upper River Region (URR) to assess the progress of works.
Implemented by GAI Construction under the supervision of Cityscape Associates, the project has recorded an overall physical progress of 53%. Construction activities are currently ongoing on five road sections, while the relocation of NAWEC water pipelines and GAMTEL cables is underway on six roads within Basse Township to facilitate uninterrupted construction.
During the visit, the team observed that surface dressing is in progress on the 12.18km Manneh Kunda–Demba Kunda–Numuyel Road, where overall progress has reached 81%. On the Basse–Dempha Kunda–Tambasansang Road, concrete pavement works are advancing following the completion of the base course and drainage structures, with the section now 70% complete.
Earthworks on the 27km Sutukoba–Chamoi Bunda Road are nearing completion, while drainage structures are currently under construction, bringing overall progress on the section to 43km. Construction is also progressing steadily on the Santusu Road and the Basse–Manneh Kunda Road, where roadbed preparation, sub-base works and concrete pavement construction are ongoing.
Asa Awuku-Ansah, Resident Engineer for the supervising consultant, Cityscape, said as part of measures to address potential flooding, the contractor has completed interventions at critical sections along the MRC Road and the Demba Kunda Road to improve drainage and ensure uninterrupted access during the rainy season.
The inspection forms part of the NRA’s commitment to closely monitoring the implementation of road infrastructure projects to ensure quality standards are maintained and that projects are completed on schedule.
Upon completion, the EPC Lot 1 Project is expected to significantly improve road connectivity, ease transportation, and support socio-economic development across the Upper River Region.
