Barrow Lays Foundation for Over 45km Agricultural Roads in LRR, WCR
President Adama Barrow on Wednesday, 1st April 2026, laid the foundation stone for a 45.3-kilometre GIRAV feeder roads project spanning the Lower River Region (LRR) and the West Coast Region (WCR).
The ceremony forms part of the government’s ongoing nationwide rollout of the GIRAV agricultural roads initiative, aimed at improving rural connectivity and boosting access to markets for farming communities.
The World Bank funds the project under its Agricultural Development Program and falls under Lot 3.
Construction works have been awarded to SSTP, while supervision will be carried out by Pace and Ceeteq Joint Venture.
The road network, with a total length of 45.3 kilometres, is divided into six sections across the two regions:
1. Sare Jamma to Minna – 4.5km (Jara West, LRR)
Following the completion of the earthworks, the contractor has now completed 1.3km of priming.
2. Gjonkil–Kewel–Kangmamudu–Kansambu to Kampassa – 4.3km (Foni Jarrol, WCR)
3. Wasadou–Adullay–Fass Chabai–Kangiramba Busary to Bulengant – 7km (Foni Jarrol, WCR)
(Foni Bondali, WCR)
4. Burambang–Bulengant–Tibat–Kankurang to Bambara – 7.5km (Foni Bondali, WCR)
The contractor has achieved 3.7km of subgrade and 2.5km of subbase.
5. Nyeatempo–Fass Chamen–Nfee–Jending–Jilahar to Bulunto – 7.2km (Foni Jarrol, WCR)
The initiative is expected to significantly enhance transportation, facilitate agricultural trade, and improve livelihoods in the beneficiary communities.
