Barrow Lays Foundation Stone for 46km Road Project in URR
President Adama Barrow on Sunday, 17 May 2026, laid the foundation stone for a 46.3-kilometre road project spanning the Wuli East, Wuli West and Sandu districts in the Upper River Region (URR).
The ceremony forms part of Phase One of the government’s 1,500-kilometre Connect Gambia nationwide road construction initiative, aimed at improving rural connectivity and increasing access for beneficiary communities across the country.
The road projects, which are fully funded by the government, fall under Lots 7 and 8 of the Connect Gambia Infrastructure Projects initiative.
The 46.3-kilometre road network is divided into three sections across the districts: the Yerobawol–Jagular road (3.3km) under Lot 8; the Naudeh–Saregubu Bashir–Changhally–Changhally Lang Kaddy–Misera–Sare Fodike road (21km) under Lot 8; and the Wellingara Yareh–Makamasireh–Musakunda–Darboe Kunda–Sare Koli Kunda–Foday Kunda road (22km) under Lot 7.
With this latest project, the total length of roads for which the President has laid foundation stones in the Upper River Region now stands at 131.6 kilometres.
The initiative is expected to significantly improve transportation, stimulate economic activity, and enhance the quality of communities across the region.
