The Kiang West Road Project
This project, which is divided into two (2) phases, is 87km.
Phase 1 is from Kiang Sankandi to Karantaba – 39km, while Phase 2, which starts from Kiang Keneba to Kiang Kemoto is 48km.
Phase 2 comprises several roads connecting to Phase 1.
The Consultant for the project is CityScape Associates, while the Contractor is Gai Construction.
In Phase 1
The Contractor is currently painting after entirely completing the sealing. They finished painting the centre lane up to Karantaba.
Left and right road edges have been marked on both sides and painting on the RHS has started from Karantaba end.
In Phase 2
The contractor is currently working on both the earthworks and sealing. They are left with less than 5km of the earthworks and have sealed about 18km out of 48km.
The challenge faced by the contractor is the low supply of bitumen and basalts. But they are working on regulating it.
The project has overall achieved 92% of work progress in Phase 1, while 76% of the work progressed in Phase 2.
