NRA Boss Assures Quality Delivery of GIRAV Roads Project
Sulayman Sumareh Janneh, Managing Director of the National Roads Authority (NRA), has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to delivering high-quality work under the GIRAV Feeder Roads Project nationwide.
He made this statement on Monday, 30th March 2026, during a meeting in Sare Soffie, shortly after President Adama Barrow presided over the foundation stone laying for a 35.2km feeder roads project in the Central River Region (CRR).
The ceremony forms part of ongoing nationwide foundation stone-laying activities for the World Bank-funded GIRAV Roads Project.
The 35.2km project is divided into two sections within the CRR: the 3.2km Sinchu Alhagie–Pateh Sam road in Niamina East, and the 32km Cha Kunda–Sare Soffie–Chargel–Madina Duta Wally–Nyamen Kunda–Dobong Kunda–Bansang road in Upper Fulladu.
Mr Janneh described the project as a major milestone for the people of the region, emphasising that both road sites are vital not only for farmers but for the broader population. He noted that upon completion, the roads will improve connectivity between communities and provide better access to farmlands, schools, markets, and healthcare facilities.
For his part, President Adama Barrow said the project underscores his government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the CRR, particularly in Niamina East and Upper Fulladu.
“I intend to work for the development of the country. I will not allow my government’s commitment to national development to be distracted by opposition criticism,” he stated.
The President further highlighted that the World Bank-supported GIRAV initiative is designed to improve the transportation of goods and services, while enhancing access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and markets. He also expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its continued support toward The Gambia’s development agenda.
