SFD delegates visits 50km Urban Roads Project
As part of their technical and financial visit to the country, the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) on Tuesday 27th January 2026, visited the ongoing funded 50kms Urban Roads Lot 1&2 project.
The roads visited by the SFD delegates are: P6: Kololi Tavern – Bijilo – Brufut 8.6km; P8: Bijilo – (Bertil Harding) – Sukuta Nemasu – Latrikunda 6.84km; P13: Sukuta Health Centre – Kololi/Senegambia road intersection 3.25km and P18: Kololi/Senegambia road intersection – Touba Sanchaba road 1.14km respectively.
The overall progress for Lot 1 is 94% and 91% in Lot 2.
Speaking after the site visits, Mr Abdulrahman ALHARBI, head of the Saudi Fund for Development delegates expressed delight to be in the country again, adding that they are on a technical visit to the country to see for themselves the challenges and progress registered in the ongoing project.
According to him, the objective of the visit is to make a follow-up on their funded roads project and to see how to support in tackling some of the challenges faced by the project.
Mr Samba Mballow, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure (MOTWI) said the donor’s mission in the country is to come, inspect and address specific gaps faced by the ongoing road construction.
For his part, Sulayman Sumareh Janneh, Managing Director of the National Roads Authority (NRA) expressed his appreciation to the Saudi Fund for Development for supporting some of the Gambia’s road projects,
While thanking the contractor and the consultant for their hard work, MD Sumareh Janneh informed the SFD delegates that the NRA and the Ministry are currently embarking on a feasibility study of constructing more than 900km of roads across the country and appealed for the bank to consider the possibility of funding the project.
